From the President

Robert Matney

President Virginia Association of USA Boxing LBC #12

Junior Olympic Coordinator East Central Region #2

Thank you for visiting our LBC website. The Virginia Association of USA Boxing welcomes all that are interested in the future development of our youth, athletic greatness, the spirit of competition and camaraderie.

The year of 2009 is behind us and it was a banner year for us. Our membership has grown to levels that ensure the progress of our athletes. This is manifested not only in the rise of general membership but in the amount of new clubs registered and an all time record amount of events hosted by our LBC clubs. Our LBC is the first, (as far as we know) to form a Masters Committee and Chair and will be hosting our first "Masters" event early in 2009.

2010 WILL prove to be even better. We are in the first quarter of the year and our Chief of Officials, Richard Ellis, has already scheduled 10 events before the end of the quarter.  Two shows include our 1st "Pro-Am" event and then our 1st annual fundraiser that will have our 1st four round "Feature Bout" at the same event. We have many other events that are in planning stages at this point also. I am sure that we will break last year’s records again.

The sport of amateur boxing is alive and well in the state of Virginia. I encourage all to attend at least one event this year. See our youth display their dedication and bravery in a positive way that will follow them for the rest their lives in what ever endeavor they choose.

I would be remiss if I did not mention our "Volunteer Officials and Ringside Physicians". If not for these unselfish and dedicated individuals we could not continue. Our referees and judges continue in their progress and proficiency because of our growth. I want to thank them all. Please contact me if you would like to become a registered and certified official, after all they have the best seats at the bouts.

In closing I would like to applaud our coaches. These men and women give their all. The sacrifices that amateur coaches make for their athletes and the sport is without compare to any other. There is no boxing without them.

I look forward to 2009 and please do not hesitate to contact me anytime.
